Updating and Improving Learning Spaces for Our Students

Since December, Oregon City School District's 2025 capital improvement bond-funded projects have advanced from design to visible construction across multiple sites. Here's what's been accomplished over the past four months.

Fields Taking Shape at OCHS

The most visible progress has been at Oregon City High School's athletic facilities. In February, our district celebrated the completion of the new softball field with a ribbon cutting ceremony. By March, the baseball field followed suit with its own ribbon cutting. Both fields now feature new turf, updated scoreboards, and improved lighting controls. The multi-use field is expected to be complete soon, with all projects on track for the spring athletic season.

Phase 2 Schools: From Design to Permitting

The three Phase 2 elementary schools—Candy Lane, Holcomb, and John McLoughlin—have moved through critical planning stages since winter.

Candy Lane has completed its land use application process with Clackamas County, with the completeness review now finished. District staff are actively planning the school's temporary relocation to King Campus for the 2026-27 school year while construction takes place.

Holcomb started the construction process over spring break with the completion of safe asbestos abatement work. The Planning Commission held a public hearing on March 23, and construction permits have been submitted to the city.

John McLoughlin has also submitted construction permit packages and continues working through the land use approval process.

All three schools held focus groups in January, giving staff the opportunity to provide input on interior finishes and design details. Our district has also published requests for proposals  and have selected vendors for moving services and playground equipment.

CTE Building and Pioneer Stadium

The expansion of Career and Technical Education (CTE) spaces at OCHS completed its design development phase in late 2025. Our bond team has now begun early procurement for items with long lead times, including doors, frames, and hardware—a strategic approach that will help keep this project on schedule.

Pioneer Stadium design work is also continuing.

Phase 3: Early Investigation Underway

Planning has begun for the three Phase 3 elementary schools—Beavercreek, Gaffney Lane, and Redland. A design kick-off meeting took place in late February, and geotechnical drilling was completed at all three sites in mid-January. Early investigative work continues as our district prepares for future construction phases.

Community Engagement Throughout

Our bond team has maintained consistent community touchpoints throughout this period. In November, bond staff attended fall conferences to share information and answer questions. In January, focus groups were held at each Phase 2 school. In March, Kinder Connect events at multiple schools provided another opportunity for families to learn about upcoming improvements at the phase 2 schools.

The Community Bond Oversight Committee also held several meetings and reported to the OCSD School Board between January and March to ensure transparency and accountability throughout the bond program. Their next meeting will be held on June 1, 2026.
